Carl Eugene "Gene" Brooks

Carl Eugene ""Gene"" Brooks, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away at his home, October 1, 2015. Gene was born August 11, 1929 in Forsyth County to the late Carl Manuel and Hattie Ketner Brooks. He served in the Army in the Korean Conflict and was a life time member of the VFW 1134. He retired from Salem Electric Company after 38 years as an Electrician. His hobbies, which he dearly loved, were fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his beloved son, Terry Eugene Brooks, brothers, Bill, Rob, Tom, Lee and Dan Brooks, sisters, Minnie Brooks Doss, Betty Brooks Wooten and Louise Brooks Charles. He is survived by a brother, Jim Brooks (Faye) of Hamptonville, NC, three daughters, Robin Brooks, Cathy Brooks McCarthy (Paul) and Sharon Brooks, four grandchildren, Michael Chnupa, Candice Chnupa Dempsey, Brandon Luke and Patrick McCarthy, plus three great-grandchildren, Jarret Dempsey, Jacob Dempsey and Tristan Chnupa, all of Vero Beach, Florida; and was loved by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
