Carl Blackmon of Winston-Salem departed this earth early Thursday morning, January 14, 2021. He was a Christian from early childhood and had a personal relationship with his Heavenly Father. Carl was an employee for R.J. Reynolds for over 30 years culminating his career as a Chief Mechanic. He served several years on the Board of Directors for the Mineral Springs Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid antique car aficionado and member of the Piedmont Model-A Restorers Club. He was a member and Sunday School Teacher at Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall for thirty-seven years.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Onita Reynolds Blackmon; two brothers, EJ and Rufus Blackmon, and two sisters, Helen Blackmon and Mary Ann Brewer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis Sexton Blackmon; a brother, Glenn (Wanda) Blackmon; two daughters, Tammy Beane and Cheryl (Joe) Pack; two sons, Stephen Blackmon and David (Nancy) Blackmon; two grand-daughters, Brittany and Candace; and four great-grandchildren.
Carl was known as “Scallywag” on the CB radio and had an enduring sense of humor. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
