Oak Ridge-Calvin Ernest Thornton, 80, died Friday, December 12, 2008 at his home. He was born January 3, 1928 in Stokes Co. to the late Elmer Thomas and Lena Amos Thornton. He was a member of Northwest Baptist Church. Calvin Ernest was a United States Army veteran. He served in Korea from 1950-1952. He retired in 1991 from Roadway Express with 28 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Virginia Thornton and Naomi Thornton Vernon; one brother, Paul Carlie Thornton. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Eloise Dunlap Thornton; one son, Ernest Ronald Thornton and wife Jill; two grandchildren, Kaycie Nicole Thornton and Alexander Ronald Thornton. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 pm Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville. Entombment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
