Mr. Calvin Lorenzo Petticord, age 87 of Mocksville died Saturday, April 6, 2013. He was born February 23, 1926, the youngest of seven children born to the late Frank and Lula Harreld Petticord of Kernersville. He joined the US Army right out of High School following two of his brothers and two brothers-in-law into the Service. He rose to the rank of Master Sargent and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Calvin served valiantly and among other awards earned Purple Hearts in both wars and the Bronze Star in Korea. After the war he maintained a family farm and worked full time for Hanes Knitting Mill until his retirement in the mid-sixties. He worked for a time in Real Estate and home construction and later worked for the US Postal Service for several years. Mr. Petticord was an accomplished carpenter, both in the home construction and re-finishing furniture. Wood working and duck carving were his lifelong hobbies. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hubert, Frank and John Cameron and two sisters, Margaret and Anne Sue. He is survived by his wife, Betty Fulp Petticord; three children, Christa Hamilton and husband Lee, Blaine Petticord and wife Judy and Dena Petticord; three grandchildren, Robyn H. Reynolds, Jason Hamilton and Casey Petticord and one sister Helen. Calvin had lived with his family in Davie County since 1963. The last few years of his life he was taken care of by the Bill Hefner VA Hospital in Salisbury. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
