McLeansville - Calvin Eugene Lanning, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. He was born December 22, 1926 in Davidson Co. to the late Joe Grady and Julia Cross Lanning. Mr. Lanning was a member of McConnell Road Baptist Church. He was a WWII United States Navy Veteran and retired from Sears and Roebuck after 38 years of service. Mr. Lanning enjoyed the outdoors, golfing and Greensboro Minor League Baseball. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Lanning. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Betty Campbell Lanning of the home; two children, Bill Lanning of Greensboro, and Janice Linn and husband, Preston of Durham; four grandchildren, Brian Lanning and wife, Misty, Brooke Lanning and husband, Chris, Andrew Linn, and Katie Linn and fiancé, Miles; two sisters, Doris Morgan of Los Angeles, CA, Loretta Rainey of Lexington; one brother, ""Buck"" Lanning and wife, Mary of Lexington. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at McConnell Road Baptist Church with Pastor J. Wayne Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to McConnell Road Baptist Church, 3911 McConnell Road, Greensboro, NC 27406.
