Byron Walter Linville

WALKERTOWN-Byron Walter Linville, 90, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at his home. He was born July 3, 1918 in Forsyth Co. to the late Daniel Byron and Edna Virginia Lasley Linville. Byron was a long time member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church. He served his country with the United States Navy during WWII repairing carrier based aircraft in San Diego, CA. After WWII, he joined Piedmont Airlines and worked in a number of aircraft maintenance related positions until he retired in 1989. Byron served in a number of Boy Scout leadership positions with Troop 935 in Walkertown, NC in the 1950's. His primary interest was introducing young boys to camping and the outdoors. Byron and his wife volunteered many years for Meals on Wheels. He was a master mechanic who enjoyed ""piddling"" with projects for his family and friends, and always enjoyed the challenge of solving complex projects, including making his own tools to accomplish it. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Maudessa Mae Hardaway Linville of the home; two sons, Mike Linville and wife, Mary of Kernersville, Dan Linville and wife, Rita of Apex; one sister, Ola Whicker of Winston Salem; three grandchildren, Greg Linville and wife, Julie of Cary, Tracy Goins and husband, Rob of Hayesville, and Lauren Linville of Jackson, Fl. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, June 5, 2009 at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev Steve Autrey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Boy Scouts of America, 6600 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, NC 27106, or The Nature Conservancy PO Box 6020, Albertlea, MN 56007-9824 or Morris Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2715 Darrow Rd., Walkertown, NC 27051. Byron had a life long love of nature and the outdoors.
