Bruce Emerson White, 89, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Winston-Salem on June 20, 1920, the fourth of eight children, to the late Ira Hill and Evelyn Elizabeth Baynes White. Bruce was a graduate of Reynolds High School. Bruce served in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He fought in the Pacific Theater where he rose to the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. At the end of WWII, Bruce came home to work with his father at the family business, White Vehicle Co. located on Liberty St. He later went to work for the U.S. Postal Service where he retired in 1980. Bruce was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church. His children remember him as a strong man and that his world revolved around his family. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Earline Nelson White; three children, Sandra White Massey and husband Bill and family, Peggy White McGraw and husband Frank and family, and Bruce Emerson White, Jr. and wife Wendy and family; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; also surviving is an older sister and many nieces and nephews. There will be a small chapel service at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 17, 2010 with Rev. G. Thomas Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and also after the graveside service at the daughter's home at 172 March Ferry Rd. Advance, NC 27006. The family would like to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, especially to Dan Booher and Princilla McGee for all of the tender care and emotional support.
