Bruce Conrad Flynt, 93, of Pine Knoll Shores passed away at his home on September 27, 2023. He was born on June 8, 1930, to Opie Burke Flynt and Marvin Conrad Flynt in Winston-Salem. Bruce was a lifelong member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. His career in Fire Services began in 1951 at South Fork Volunteer Fire Dept. where he would eventually serve as chief. He owned Lewisville Fuel and Burner Service and retired from G&B Oil Company. In 1993, Bruce “retired” to Pine Knoll Shores. There, he worked for the town and the fire department where he remained an active member until his death. His dedication to public safety earned him the admiration and gratitude of the entire community. He will also be remembered as a caring neighbor and mentor. His positive influence is reflected in the lives of all who knew him. Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Flynt; as well as his former wife, and mother of his children, Betty Flynt. Surviving are his children, Karen Allen (Michael), and Krista White (Jeff); grandchildren, Shane Crotts (Tina), Brent Crotts (Kathy), Erin Spence (Nick), and Lauren Middleton (Adam); nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; many, many neighbors, and friends; and his beloved puppy, Elsie. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Rt. Rev. Sam Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. There will be a reception in the church fellowship hall following a brief graveside committal service. (There will be a memorial service in Pine Knoll Shores at a future date.)
