Bruce Davis

KERNERSVILLE- Bruce Lee Davis, 65, conquered everything life threw at him so it took a tag-team of internal illness to take him down. He still fought heroically until the end on March 9, 2018. But let's start from the beginning. Bruce was born on August 9, 1952, in Winston-Salem to Carl Nelson Davis and Ruby Hawks Davis. His favorite childhood memories included fishing with his family at the Outer Banks and watching the space race that culminated in man landing on the moon. His fascination with flight led him to get his pilot's license by age 20. He was an avid amateur pilot throughout his life, including a stint in the Civil Air Patrol. His college years took him to NC State, where he received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1975. After working for Duke Power throughout college, he was hired upon graduation by RJ Reynolds, where his job sent him to Whitaker Park, Tobaccoville, and even Hong Kong during his 33 years of service until retirement in 2008. Bruce's hobbies were perhaps the most prolific part of his life. He was an athlete, playing soccer, golf (scoring two holes-in-one), and bowling (including a 300 game). He was an adventurer, from scuba diving in the Caribbean to boating and water skiing at High Rock Lake to attending racing school at Virginia International Raceway. He taught spinning classes at the YMCA and Triangle Fitness, and was known for his pumping playlists and enthusiastic instruction. He also returned to his roots, bringing his own family back to the Outer Banks for vacations and fishing trips. Most important in Bruce's life, though, was his faith. He served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder at Linville Forest Church of Christ, and in the way he lived his life, he was a true man of God. He loved music, was a song leader, and was often complimented on his beautiful tenor voice. Those who knew Bruce will continue to celebrate his memory and follow his example. This includes his wife of 36 years, Martha of Kernersville, his daughter Jenna Shelley (Eric) and grandson Benjamin of Greensboro, his son Corey of Cary, his brother Terry (Elaine) of Chattanooga, Tenn., his sister Leigh Ann Adams of Lexington, and many great friends gained through his lifelong interests and commitments. A pot-luck lunch and visitation will be held on March 12 at 11:30 am at Linville Forest Church of Christ in Kernersville, followed by funeral services at 1 pm and interment at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. Any memorials can be made to the Linville Forest Church of Christ. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Davis family.
