Brian Joseph Murphy died Monday, December 10, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. He was 71. Brian was born in Buffalo, NY on June 3, 1947 to Paul and Margaret (Sands) Murphy. He is survived by his wife Peggy (Margaret Burke) Murphy, his son, Keith (Amanda Wallace) Murphy, and two daughters, Tara (Adam) Weitz and Meghan (Steven) Murphy-Borland. He had eight grandchildren, Zoe, Sophie, Emma, Aurora, Catherine, Amelia, Milo and Asher. He is also survived by his brother, Paul (Eugenia) Murphy, and sisters Eileen Doyle and MaryAnn (Kevin) O’Neil, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Patrick Doyle. Brian graduated from Bishop Timon High School in Buffalo, NY in 1965. He earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Buffalo in 1969 and master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University. He was a senior vice president for Wells Fargo before retiring. Brian was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather who supported his family through a lifetime of celebrations and struggles. He gave back to his community as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and other local organizations and neighborhood committees. He loved classic and hard rock music, action films, cheesy popcorn, engaging in political debate, and a well-timed joke. Most of all, he loved dancing with his grandchildren and making them laugh. He was also known as Grandpa Tickle Finger. A wake will be held 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Thomas H. McCarthy Funeral Home at 1975 Seneca St. in Buffalo on Friday, Dec. 28. Funeral services will be on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church, 1974 Seneca St. in Buffalo. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna, NY.
