Boyd 'Round Man' Poplin

Boyd Poplin, cordially known as ""Round Man"", took his final flight to his eternal home of perfect peace and joy on September 18, 2013. No doubt he was escorted by the band of angels summoned to his death bed in Forsyth Medical Center by the Lord Himself. He was born on April 22, 1937 to Lena Bell Poplin and Gilbert Poplin, Sr., who predeceased him. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Barbara Ann White. Left to cherish the many precious memories he left are his loving wife of 58 years, Bobbie Poplin whom he cared for during several illnesses, until he entered the hospital recently. Also surviving are two daughters, Debbie Steinberg of Winston-Salem, Phyllis Bowman (Kenneth) of King and one son, Gary Poplin (Judy) of Winston-Salem; one brother, Gilbert Poplin, Jr. (Kathleen) of Winston-Salem and one sister, Sue Ring of Clemmons. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ben Steinberg, Angie Tremmel, Jessica and Cody Poplin; three great grandchildren, Judah and Ayla Steinberg and Ashley Tremmel. Boyd was blessed with several nieces and nephews, as well as many special friends- too numerous to mention. Boyd was educated locally. He served as an insurance salesman, worked in the Hanes Cotton Mill, and later was licensed as a heating and air conditioning contractor. He was very skilled in this area, and often worked long hours to help those in need, without pay if the person he served was unable to pay- a rare and noble characteristic. He enjoyed many hobbies- fishing, golfing, camping and cycling. Boyd professed Christ as his Saviour and joined Hanes Baptist Church in 1972. Over the years he served the Lord through the Church as a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon and a member of the Building and Pulpit Committees. Boyd was not afraid to die, nor was he ashamed to die, because his life honored the Lord; witnessing to so many he came in contact with, wherever he was. He was an avid Bible scholar which fashioned him to be the strong Christian he was. He left here with no regrets, and often spoke of his Homegoing. Boyd was a simple man, not pretentious, egotistical or proud and was overshadowed by God's love, which he willingly shared. Truly, he was characterized by a scripture verse in II Timothy: ""I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."" A Celebration of his Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Hanes Baptist Church, 4212 Sabrina Lake Rd., Winston-Salem. Officiating will be Rev. Jason Holley, Rev. Ron Groce and Rev. J.B. Parker, Jr. with remarks and a song for the burial at Westlawn Gardens of Memory by Rev. Hugh Miller. Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Hanes Baptist Church. So long, our beloved brother, ""Until the day break, and the shadow flee away."" The family offers special thanks to the staff of the CVSU Unit in Forsyth Medical Center, as well as Dr. David Duncan and Dr. Robert Preli for their constant and expert care.
