Boyce James Royal

Mr. Boyce James Royal, 83, of Winston-Salem, a loving husband, father and grandfather passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born November 17, 1927 in Surry County to Millard Henderson and Minnie Brown Royall. Mr. Royal was president and co-owner of Joyce and Royal, Inc. He was a charter member of West Side Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and assistant treasurer for many years. Mr. Royal was a WWII veteran, and a member of the Wake Forest Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, as well as the Forsyth Medical Center, Heart and Wellness. He dearly loved to play golf and for over 40 years was a member of the Hillcrest Golf Club and the Hillcrest Men's Golf Association. Mr. Royal was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Williams Royal; a son, David Royal; two sisters, Mrs. Hester R. Southard and his twin sister, Mrs. Joyce R. Mathis; and three brothers, Joseph, Kenneth and Edwin Royall. Surviving are one daughter, Ms. Cynthia Royal and fianc郩, Don Smith; daughter-in-law, Penny Royal; three grandchildren, Heath Petree and wife Jessica, Hayley Petree and fianc郩, John, and Justin Royal; and one brother, Charles Royall and wife Patricia of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20 at West Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Side Baptist Church, 595 S.
