Bonnie Singletary Robertson

Bonnie Singletary Robertson, born May 13, 1945, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Her age, while easily deduced from the foregoing, will not be stated specifically in print lest she rise up and slap some faces. Bonnie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Gloria Walton Singletary (absolute stunner and kindest woman that ever lived), at a time when her father, Otis A. Singletary, was far far away defending his country (and the world, thank you), and thus did not meet Bonnie until she was a year old. She apparently held a slight grudge about this and kinda gave him a hard time (about everything) for the rest of his life. Those who truly knew this fiery, rebellious, hilarious, stubborn and feisty redhead knew these things about her: (1) she could make a 4 letter word into 9 syllables, (2) she LOVED Tom Jones (in her opinion the sexiest man alive), (3) she really (and I mean reeeeeally) did not like to be told what to do, (4) she had a bit (!) of a temper, (5) she was not particularly neat (i.e., a total slob), (6) she rescued dogs before rescuing dogs was a thing, (7) she loved beach music and shagging, (8) she was a loyal and steadfast friend, (9) she was tough as an old barn nail, (10) she was an avid reader (just ask Barnes & Noble) and cross-worder, (11) she made a mean zutoni (never would give David that recipe), (12) she loved her HEEEEEELS (also a 9 syllable word), and (13) she had a heart of pure, solid gold.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, O & Glo, but leaves behind many friends and loved ones to mourn her, miss her and remember, with fondness and chuckles (and maybe a grimace or two), her antics and free spirit, including her best friend, Brenda; her children, Jill Robertson Stokes, David Robertson and Jeff Robertson; seven beloved grandchildren, Jordan, Katie, Riley, Everleigh, Easton, Andrew and Noelle; three great-grandchildren, Colton, Skylar and Alana; her treasured daughter-in-law, April Robertson; her little brother, Robert Scot Singletary; and her little sister, Kendall Singletary Barret (who was her favorite).

The family would like to give special thanks to Gloria Flowers, who was Bonnie’s constant and loving companion, friend, caretaker and advocate during the last years of her life. And a big shout out to the entire nursing staff on the 600 Hall of Strickland Place at Arbor Acres for truly seeing her for who she was even after she wasn’t anymore.

Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Ms. Robertson.
