Mr. Bobby Gray Pope passed away on October 8, 2022, at Forsyth Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Forsyth County on August 12, 1930, to Ira and Lillian Collins Pope. He attended Griffith School and spent his early years working on the family farm. Soon after he began a career that spanned more than 75 years at Pope Sand and Gravel Inc. As owner and President Mr. Pope proudly worked to keep the company that his father started in 1928 an integral part of the community. A strong work ethic and lasting relationships with customers was most important to him. Second only to his faith and family.
Mr. Pope was a faithful member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church. He served the church as Sunday School Superintendent, Diener, and as an usher for many years. He was also a lifetime member of the Moravian Mission Society.
Bobby Pope and Ruby Binkley were married on November 8, 1947. They shared a long and loving marriage of 65 years before Ruby passed away in 2012. Together they raised four children they loved and were so proud of.
Bobby was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Gray Pope; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gabard Pope; sister Charlotte Leach; and brothers, JS Pope and Wilburn Pope.
Bobby is survived by sons Barry Pope (Jeannie), Randy Pope, Michael Pope (Cathy); a daughter Marilyn Bassinger (Donnie); Grandchildren Lucas Bassinger, Lori Bassinger, Bradley Bassinger (Emily), and Austin Pope; one great-grandson Alex Pope; brothers Wayne Pope (Carolyn), Terry Pope (Judy); sister Faye Goolsby (Nelson); and many loving nieces and nephews.
The memorial service for Mr. Pope will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church. The Rev. John D. Rights will officiate. The family will receive friends at a reception in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. A private graveside service at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the people at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church and all his special neighbors in Clemmons that were so helpful for all these years. Also, the staff and patrons at Clemmons Kitchen and Pete’s Family Restaurant for their love and support as well.
