Bobby J. Bob Yates

Mr. Bobby J. ""Bob"" Yates, of Winston-Salem, NC died Saturday morning, April 2, 2016 at his home in Belews Lake. He had been in declining health for several months. Bob was born in Marianna, FL on August 8, 1933 to Lonnie and Lillian Yates. After graduation from Marianna High School in 1951 he attended Chipola Jr. College where he met Jean Shewmaker who was to become his wife on March 29, 1953. In June of 1953 Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served until March of 1955. After honorable discharge he lived with his wife and family in Atlanta, GA where he attended what is now Georgia State University. Later he lived in Columbia, SC before moving to Winston-Salem, NC in 1962. Bob at one time was employed by Uarco Business Forms and later became the founder and owner of Carolina Business Systems and Shamrock Casino Tours. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and younger brother, Jim, of Montgomery, AL. Surviving is his wife, Jean, with whom he had recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Also surviving are two sons, Joseph Yates and his wife Elizabeth of Charlotte, NC and Douglas Yates of Greenville, NC; one daughter, Cindy Anders and her husband Greg of Winston-Salem; and his beloved grandchildren: Jonathan Anders of Mebane, NC, Justin Yates of Clearwater, FL and Ashley Yates of Jacksonville, FL. In addition he is survived by a sister, Clara Nutt of Marianna, FL and sister-in-law, Twyla Yates of Montgomery, AL. A small graveside service will be held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Red Cross. Arrangements are being made by Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway.
