Bobby Lee Thompson

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Bobby Lee Thompson, 79, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center. Bobby was born on May 17, 1934, in Forsyth County to the late Willie and Willie Mae Violet Lee Thompson. He was a graduate of Griffith High School and earned a degree in Police Science from Forsyth Technical Institute. Bobby retired from the US Navy after 22-1/2 years, where he served on numerous Aircraft carriers, was on Tour of Duty in Korea and Vietnam, receiving numerous medals during his service. He also worked for the Kernersville Police Department as a dedicated Police Officer serving the community for 10 years. Bobby shared his love of baseball and youth by working as a little league umpire for many years. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by a son, Richard Daryl Thompson; four brothers and six sisters. Surviving are his wife, Juanita 'Nita' Thompson of the home; one son, Randy (Lisa) Thompson; one daughter, LeAnn Thompson; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Robert Decker officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Triad Baptist Church, 1175 South Main Street, Kernersville, NC 27284.
