KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Bobby Ray Kennedy, 83, died August 26, 2013, at his home. Bobby was born on February 3, 1930 in Forsyth County to the late Samuel Lorenz and Essie Shaw Kennedy. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict and retired from Thomasville Community Hospital as a Radiology Technician. Bobby was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and Kernersville Masonic Lodge #669. His leadership qualities and dedication to others was prevalent in his service to the community. He was the past president of the NC Society of X-Ray Technicians; Past Patron of Kernersville 205 Order of Eastern Star; Order of Arrow Boy Scouts of America Assistant Scout Master; Sunday School teacher and member of the Choir at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church; and Square Dance caller and teacher for various clubs in Winston-Salem and the surrounding area. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Kathi Goff Kennedy; one son-in-law, Phillip Ray Deans, Jr; and one brother, William Joseph Kennedy. Surviving are his wife, Martha Howard Kennedy of the home; two sons, Robert Wyche Kennedy (Judy) of Julian and David Ray Kennedy of Kernersville; three daughters, Marcia K. Deans of Middlesex, Lori K. Adams (Bobby) of Pinnacle, and Dorcas K. Powell (Bill) of Evans, GA; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Samuel 'Loke' Kennedy (Norma), James Lee Kennedy, both of Winston-Salem and Eugene Kennedy (Lois) of King; and one sister, Ann K. Beeson (Philip) of St. Simon's, GA. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Brett Cogan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Bingham Hall. A committal service with full Masonic rites will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1210 Bolton Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
