Mr. Bobby Wayne Duncan, 58, beloved husband of Blair McNinch Duncan and loving father of Hunter Benjamin Duncan and Merritt Chaplin Duncan, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 following a sudden and debilitating two-month illness. Mr. Duncan was born June 22, 1954 in Stokes County, NC to the late Benjamin Hastings Duncan and Nora Lee Craddock Duncan. He graduated from North Stokes High School in 1972 and was a standout athlete and basketball player at both Surry Community College and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC-G). Bobby graduated from UNC-G in 1976, receiving a BA in Physical Education. He spent his entire professional career as a mentor and role model, serving the students of Stokes County in a teaching/coaching capacity. For thirty-six years, before retiring in August 2012, he was on the faculty of Southeastern Stokes Middle School and for 20 of those years served as its Athletic Director. He was respected within the community, highly-regarded among his peers and loved by his students. In addition to his wife and two sons, Mr. Duncan is survived by sisters Catherine (Spencer) Hill of King, Nancy (Charles) Woods of Reidsville, Shirley (Jimmy) Marshall and Doris Sams, both of Pinnacle; brothers James (Betty) Duncan of Lansing and Michael (Linda) Duncan of King; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Sylvanus McNinch III of Charlotte; his brother-in-law, Samuel S. ""Bo"" (Gigi) McNinch, IV of Mt. Pleasant, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty and Virginia Mae and two brothers, Billy and Joe. Mr. Duncan was a member of Rural Hall Moravian Church, where funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013. The Reverend Dr. Steve Craver will officiate, assisted by the Reverend James C. Newsome, Jr. The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Monday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel as well as at the church following the service on Tuesday. Private interment services will be in Rural Hall Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that any memorials be directed to Southeastern Stokes Middle School Athletics Department, 1044 N. Main Street, Walnut Cove, NC 27052 or to Rural Hall Moravian Church, PO Box 487, Rural Hall, NC 27045. The Duncan family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses and entire staff at both Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, and Kindred Hospital, Greensboro, for their dedication to their profession and for the compassionate care shown to Bobby.
