Blanche Hamed Sheets

KERNERSVILLE-Blanche Hamed Sheets, 81, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill. She was born September 11, 1927 in Pocahontas Co., West Virginia to the late Ferris and Brownie Trainer Hamed. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Hamed; two brothers, Kenneth and Rockford Hamed. Surviving are her husband, Gilbert J. Sheets of the home; one daughter, Teresa Ann Sheets of Kernersville; one brother, Julian Hamed of Greenbank, West Virginia; one sister, Bernice Hamed Taylor of Boyer, West Virginia ; and many nieces and nephews. Blanche was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kernersville where she was active in the Holiday Market Pancake Supper and annual Easter Egg Project. She was a faithful member of her Sunday School class and Bible study. Blanche was Valedictorian of her high school class in Greenbank, West Virginia. She graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia and was named future teacher of the year and later was named Who's Who in Teaching. Blanche accompanied her husband to his Navy assignments, and taught school in many places, including the Midway Island and Puerto Rico. She loved children, animals, the beach, poetry, and needle work. She also was an avid newspaper reader. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Kernersville with the Rev. Clark Vincent officiating. Entombment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel.
