On a beautiful summer day, June 20, 2009, our lovely mother, Blake Lucille Mock Shouse, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on March 26th, 1923 on the family farm in Lewisville NC, the 6th of 9 children of Wiley Jasper and Anna Harper Mock. She graduated from Lewisville High School, Valedictorian of the Class of 1941. She went on to business college in Winston-Salem where she worked locally for Smithdeal Insurance and then as a legal assistant in Washington, D.C. After our Dad became sick, she took over the running of the family restaurant for a number of years and later worked in her son Tim's restaurant until 2008 where she made many special friendships. She always loved sports, especially basketball, receiving numerous awards in recognition of her talent. She met our Dad while playing AAU basketball, where he was her coach. They went on to win championships with the very competitive Hanes Hosiery teams of the 1940's. She always took an active part in all her grandchildren's lives from music to school activities. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports and was known to show her patented left hand hook shot to the grandchildren on her driveway basketball goal. And, Mom was a die-hard Duke fan. She also loved her politics and was well-informed on the issues and could hold her own debating for the conservative side. While she grew up in the Methodist and Baptist church, she was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem for over 50 years. She was active in Meals-on-Wheels and Lutheran Women's Circles over the years. She was a very self-less person, always putting the happiness and well-being of others ahead of her own. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wilson Shouse, her parents, brothers Odell, Phillip and Allen Mock, sisters Katie Lee Graves and Lillian Beroth and step-son Paul Wilson (Bud) Shouse, Jr. She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who are blessed by her life; daughter Paula Lu Shouse Andrews (and fiance', William (Bill) Vasaly), sons Gregory Paul Shouse (and wife, Martha), Douglas Wilson Shouse (and wife, Ruth), Timothy Mock Shouse (and wife, Jan), step daughter Betty Jo Ogburn (and husband, Jim); Grandchildren Lauren Andrews, Jay Andrews, Jessica Shouse, Jaime Shouse, Jordan Shouse, Donna Chanona, Dean Smith (and wife, Carrie), Taylor Shouse, Logan Shouse, Anna Shouse, Amelia Shouse, Katherine Wollner (and husband, Paul), Will and Rachel Vasaly, Thad Ogburn, (and wife, Becky), Kelly Gordon (and husband, Jeff), Great grandchildren Jacob and Emma Chanona, Christian, Connor and Caroline Smith, Luke Wollner, Parker Ogburn, Blake and Jason Gordon; sister Marianna McKinney; brothers Jasper (Jay) Mock (and wife, Lois) and Fred Mock (and wife, Jo ""Johassie""); sisters-in-law Lizzie Mock and Josephine Mock. 42 special nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Blake; and longtime special friends Ruth Reynolds Hartle and Joann Hondros.
