SMITH - WINSTON-SALEM
Mr. Billy Gene Smith, age 84, entered into his Heavenly home Friday evening, April 25, 2014. He was born May 1, 1929 in Forsyth County the son of the late Pearl Moran Smith and James Morris Smith. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 290 of King. He retired from R. J. Reynolds with 37.8 years of service. Mr. Smith was a member of Beck's Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Norman fishing, boating, and all water sports. Mr. Smith will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Nancy Flynt Smith of the home; one daughter: Jeannie Lane (Tim) of Nashville; two sons: Randy Smith (Beth) of Raleigh, Jerry Smith (Sloane) of Lewisville; nine grandchildren: Stephen, Catherine (Mandy), and Rebecca Smith, Jeremy (Kimberly), Morgan, and Lauren Smith, Samuel, Sarah and Matthew Lane; one great-grandchild: Tobin; one sister: Mae Marshall of Raleigh; and one brother: Danny Smith of Raleigh.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28 at Beck's Baptist Church with Dr. Karl Minor, Rev. Bobby Vaughn, and Dr. Randall Sledge officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons with military honors provided by American Legion Post 290. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
