Billy Ithel Keene

KERNERSVILLE- Billy Ithel Keene, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 08, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born January 7, 1936 in Wayne Co. to the late Kirby Atlas and Katie Thornton Keene. Mr. Keene had been employed with Forsyth Medical Center, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Dorothea Dix Hospital, and the Charter Hospital in the mental health field until he retired at the age of 62. Billy was a member of First Christian Church in Kernersville and began volunteering his time at the church from his mid 60's until his death. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Dallas, Percy, Russell and Max Lee Keene; and one sister, Melba Doris Tart. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Hine Keene of the home; two sons, Kevin Mark Keene of Kernersville, Kirby Eli Keene and wife, Tyra of Wilmington; two daughters, Cindy Clore and husband, John of Winston Salem, Kathy Blake and husband, Anthony of Kernersville; seven grandchildren, Jason Clore, Caroline Maragni, Christopher Kohut, Cliff Kohut, Ryenne Blake, Gracen Blake and Ellie Keene; four sisters, Faye Betts of Willow Springs, Jewel Thornton and husband, Gordon of Raleigh, Thelma Johnson of Newton Grove, and Helen Parker of Roxboro; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2011 at First Christian Church in Kernersville with Dr. Pete Kunkle, Pastor Dean Tsiolkas, and Pastor Wayne Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 PM Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the church.
