Mr. Billy Joe Brown, 77, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born November 10, 1932 in Forsyth County to Claude Swanson and Glenna Gilley Brown. Mr. Brown was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for the past 15 years. He was retired from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center with 42 years of service in which he helped found the Respiratory Care department. He enjoyed playing golf and was a very proud member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed his last few months at Heritage Woods Retirement Home. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy Hoskins Brown. Surviving is one son, Michael ""Mike"" Brown and wife Laurie; two grandsons, William and Matthew Brown; one brother, Robert Allen Brown and wife Lola; one sister, Jean Brown Jones and husband Larry, all of Winston-Salem; and a sister-in-law, Peggy B. Hoskins of Mocksville. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24 at Salem Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday evening at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Smith and the Rev. Willie Frye officiating. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 2930 Bethel Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
