Mr. Billy Gray Brown, 80, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday May 5, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on April 27, 1934, to the late Gurney Gwyn Brown and Bessie Sylvia Sizemore Brown. Mr. Brown was a 1951 graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston Salem and earned a BS degree in Mathematics from Wake Forest University. Before earning his degree, he served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Mr. Brown was employed at and retired from Varco Pruden and was also employed for a number of years at the Gulf station at the corner of Reynolda Road and Buena Vista in Winston-Salem. He was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church. Mr. Brown was lovingly described by nephew Mike Muse in the following: ""My uncle Bill Brown was a kind, brilliant man who'd been a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a military veteran, a very special uncle and much more."" In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Dorothy Doby Brown. Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Jean Brown Muse and husband Thomas Gordon Muse of Tobaccoville, NC; sons, William Gwyn Brown of Tampa, Florida and David Preston Brown and wife Teresa of Winston-Salem; daughter Janet Elizabeth McClure and husband George McClure of Albemarle, NC; grandchildren John Crockett McClure and Kathryn Elizabeth McClure as well as a step granddaughter, Sarah Stone of Matthews, NC. Mr. Brown is also survived by his first wife, Gerri Brannock Brown and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and bluegrass music and enjoyed travelling to local performances. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Timothy Muse officiating. A graveside service will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
