WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Billie E. James, Sr. passed away early Thursday morning, September 29, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, NC. He was born in Forsyth County on November 17, 1923 to the late Edward Luther and Fern Jones James. Mr. James was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp where he served honorably in the 13th Air Force in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a former Winston-Salem police officer for 10 years. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 25 years of service, and a member of Shallowford Baptist Church in Pfafftown. In addition to his parents, Billie was preceded in death by his three brothers, Talmadge James, Richard James and Ray James. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Eddinger James; four children, Billie E. James, Jr. of East Bend, NC, Timothy N. James (Debbie) of Cherokee, NC, Ann James Schuyler (Thom) of Lexington, KY, and Myron M. James (Teresa) of Lexington, NC; 10 grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly, Kristy, Zach, Sarah, Kenan, Kyle, Josh, Ben and Deidre; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Little, of Charlotte, NC. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with his sons, Pastors Bill & Tim James officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
