Bill Spraggins

Mr. Bill F. Spraggins, 89, departed this life, in Winston-Salem on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his home.  He was born in Cherokee County, Texas on October 24, 1931.  Bill was an esteemed veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Jacksonville, Florida and Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, NC.  Bill had an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life.  He loved watching his children and grandchildren grow up and thrive.  No matter what sport the kids were playing, he never missed a game.  He loved fishing, golf, and tending the families’ beautiful yard.  Bill compassionately volunteered at the Samaritan Soup Kitchen.  He started his career at United Air Lines, worked many years for Amtrak, and retired from CSX Railroad.  We hold Bill tightly within our hearts.  Preceding Bill in death were his parents, Willie Clarence Spraggins and Jimmie Lavore Spraggins; his son, William Joseph Spraggins and a brother, W.C. Spraggins.  Bill was a loving husband of 62 years to Rosemary A. Spraggins; brother to Bobby Jean Hagle; father to Margaret Magee (Steve), Barbara Doyle (Mark), and Gina Shafer (Scott); grandfather to Katherine, Emily, Adam, Sarah, Rebecca and Jennifer. Great grandfather to Jordan, Jaiden, Juliana, Jillian, Johanna, and Faith Rosemary.  He was an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.  A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 11665 Ft. Caroline Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32225.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
