Bill Olin Beckerdite

Mr. Bill Olin Beckerdite, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday 9-5-2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 14, 1918 in Davidson County, the last surviving of 12 children born to George Henry and Rose Ellen Hall Beckerdite. Mr. Beckerdite was a member of Midway United Methodist Church during his childhood until his marriage in 1947 to Hallie Stadler Beckerdite who preceded him in death. He was currently an active proud member of Ardmore United Methodist Church since 1957, and a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving 4 years. He served during WWII in the Panama Canal Zone and Germany receiving a Purple Heart. Mr. Beckerdite retired from Southern Bell after 36 years of service. He was a Mason, member of Pioneer Lodge 685, Winston-Salem Scottish Rited Bodies, Shrine Oasis Temple, Camel Shrine #5, and the Eastern Star Walter C. Kearns Chapter 298. He was Shiner of the year in 1973 and 1978. Surviving are numbers of a caring Sunday school class, some wonderful neighbors and friends, number of nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Ms. Edith Plaster. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday 9-9-2009 at Ardmore United Methodist Church with Rev. John Franklin Howard, Rev. Keri Howard and Rev. Donald Funderburk officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the reception room of the Church. Mr. Beckerdite request that the Telephone Pioneer Life Members serve as honorary pall bearers. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park.
