Betty Kimel Zimmerman

Betty Kimel Zimmerman went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2015 at the age of 89. She passed away at her home in Winston-Salem after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her family members. She was born on November 25, 1925 in Winston-Salem to Oscar Samuel Kimel and Mary Ellen Faircloth Kimel who preceded her in death.
Betty was a proud graduate of the Class of 1942 of Clemmons High School and afterwards graduated from Draughn's Business College preparing for her life-long career as a secretary. She spent the last 25 years of her employment with RJReynolds Industries as an executive assistant in the Personnel Department.
The greatest day of Betty's life was on November 27, 1947 when she had her first date with the love of her life, Kenneth I. Zimmerman. Betty and Ken shared 54 wonderful years of love, companionship, and marriage before Ken's passing in 2002. Together they helped build a Christian family and a church to which they were dedicated for their entire adult lives. Forsyth Park Baptist Church was the cornerstone of their lives. She served in many church capacities as long as her health sustained her. Sunday School teacher, choir member, flower committee chairperson, and contributor to every worthy cause were among the ways she served her Lord. She was the last surviving, active charter member of that church before her death.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Susan Zimmerman Phillips, and husband Jack Phillips of Albemarle, NC; and one granddaughter, Molly Tripp Schoneveld, and husband David Schoneveld of Los Angeles, CA.
The family would like to thank her special cousins that cared for her so lovingly during the last few years, Debbie Dixon, Susan Dawson, Toni Atta, Sandy Goins, and David Grubbs. They gave her the gift of allowing her to remain at home during her infirmity.
A service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at Forsyth Park Baptist Church on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Tom Southern will officiate. Visitation will be held at the Church one hour prior to the service at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary. Burial will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forsyth Park Baptist Church, 1600 S.
