Betty Elliott Thomerson

Betty Jean Elliott Thomerson passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 29, 2025, in Clemmons, NC. She was born on August 4, 1945, in Winston-Salem, NC, to James Buford Elliott and Mary Elsie Duckett Elliott, who preceded her in death, along with her beloved son, Michael Travis Thomerson. She is survived by her children, Krista Chassereau (Hal) and Kevin Thomerson (Sandy); her grandchildren, Macy Medlock (Matt), Emma Jimenez (Cesar), Tanner Chassereau, and Gavin Crawford; one great-grandchild, Xavier Jimenez; and her sister, Kay Elliott Burk.

Betty was a bright, adventurous, and athletic woman whose life was shaped early on by a rubella infection during her mother’s pregnancy, leaving her nearly deaf. Despite this, she thrived—learning to lip-read at a young age, excelling in school, and becoming a standout athlete in swimming, diving, golf, and basketball. She was known for her love of dogs and fearless personality—from tossing her sandals out a car window as a child to twirling flaming batons in beauty pageants. Betty earned a business degree from Mars Hill College, where she formed lasting friendships, and later worked in hospitality. Though it took time, she joyfully became a mother to three children—Krista, Kevin, and Michael—and was happiest at home, baking homemade bread and spice cake, sewing, decorating, and spending time with her family.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful people who took such great care of Betty at Cedar Hills Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, and to Trellis Supportive Care of Winston-Salem for their compassion and support during a difficult time.

There will not be any formal services. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family.
