Mrs. Betty ""Jo"" Tucker Soots, 71, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Jo was a daughter of the South. That Southern pride was manifested in her love for her hometown of Winston-Salem. Born in New Hanover to Carl and Mary Tucker, she moved to Winston-Salem as a young adult with her family taking a job at the Schlitz Brewery (later Strohs). Her civic involvement also included substantial support to the local and state Muscular Dystrophy Association. Her career continued later in life as the trusty sidekick at Ingle Insurance, also a Winston institution. Her passion was her children to whom she was everything. Her daughter, Donna Lynne, was also her best friend. They became avid women's tennis fans together, as well as sharing music and parent duties for the beloved family dogs. Sons, Rusty and Mike ventured beyond the Winston nest to Raleigh and Houston, TX respectively. Accomplished careers at Nortel Networks and NASA were always kept in perspective by their mother. Jo's lighter passions were sports, especially all Tobacco Road basketball. These winter indulgencies were offset only by the Atlanta Braves and Tiger Woods. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at Friedland Moravian Church Graveyard with Pastor Carol Foltz officiating.
