Betty Kelly Russell

Betty Lou Kelly Russell, 86, passed away at her home on June 7, 2023. She was born on April 11, 1937, to Cora Lee Willard Kelly and Calvin Anderson Kelly in Forsyth County. Betty earned her cosmetology license in the 1960’s and later opened her own shop, “Corie’s Cuts and Curls” where she worked for over 50 years. In addition to the beauty business, Betty worked for a time in retail; and for six years as a short-order cook at Waffle Wagon in Clemmons. She had three lifelong friends, JoAnn Green and JoMarie Dunham who are both deceased; and Mimi Braaksma of Holland, who survives. Talented in the arts, Betty played hymns and old standards on the piano, and painted colorful landscapes in oil. She was also gifted at gardening and cooking. She will be remembered as a devoted follower of her Lord and Savior, a faithful wife, and the best mother anyone could ask for. Surviving are her husband, Jerry Bryan Russell; a son, Anthony Russell (fiancée, Muoyleang Kong of Cambodia); grandchildren, Caleb, and Cory (Charity); great grandchildren, Holly Jane, and Lucas Abram. Also surviving is a son, Joshua Russell (Darla); grandchildren, Jacob, McKenzie (Evan), and Garrett (Emily); great grandchildren, Madi Rose, Ellie, Josie, and Abel; a special niece, Cynthia Dalton and her husband, Tony of King, NC; as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM, Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Robinhood Road Baptist Church, 5422 Robinhood Rd, Winston-Salem, NC, with Rev. John E. Hackworth, Jr., and Dr. John Y. Clagett officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be at Jonestown Baptist Church cemetery. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Sheila Small and Valarie Bell for their love and devotion to her care.
