Betty Adams Powell of Pfafftown passed peacefully at the age of 80 from renal failure at Trinity Elms Nursing Home in Clemmons, NC on Tuesday evening, N ovember 10, 2015, with her granddaughter, Lynne Ivester, by her side. She was born in Spartanburg, SC on February 15, 1935. Mrs. Powell was a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church and enjoyed watching Charles Stanley as her health failed and she could no longer drive. She was a sweet, humble lady that rarely complained and possessed an inner peace that only comes from deep faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. Mrs. Powell was artistic and known for her beautifully painted ceramics. She loved animals and could sit for hours watching birds around her home. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild, and cherished her visits with her beloved brother Pastor Herbert Adams and his family of Carolina Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, David Lorick Powell, whom she was married to for over 39 years; her son, David Lorick Powell, Jr.; her parents, Ben and Pearl Adams; and one brother, Ben Adams Jr. of Spartanburg, SC. Surviving are her stepmother, Lillie Adams, who raised her from a very young age; four children, Debbie Ivester and husband David of Pfafftown, Douglas Powell and wife Trisha of Lewisville, Donald Lewis Powell of Pfafftown with whom she had resided, and Doris Nelson and husband Keith of Clemmons; grandchildren,(David's children) Zach Powell and wife Kimberly of Kernersville and Clayton Powell and wife Lydia of Stillwater, OK;(Debbie's children) Lynne Ivester and her son Adam Ivester of Pfafftown, and Jacob David Mise of Blowing Rock, NC;(Douglas' children) Megan Jones and husband Travis of Holly Springs, NC, Benjamin Powell of Lewisville; (Don's daughter) Laura of New York, NY; (Doris' children) Joshua, Jordan and Jacob Nelson all of Clemmons, NC; two brothers, Pastor Herbert Adams and wife Dorothy of Inman, SC and their children, Phyllis White and Marcella Coleman, and Charles Adams of Greensboro, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2:30PM on Friday, November 13, 2015, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Pastor Clarence Huie, Jr. and Mr. Mark Reece officiating. Entombment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:30PM Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank all of the staff and caregivers at Trinity Elms Nursing Home in Clemmons who took such wonderful care of Mrs. Powell. They comforted her with song and prayer daily.
