On Tuesday, December 9, 2008 Betty D. Pennington joined the angels to rejoice in heaven. After her battle with COPD and cancer her courageous battle came to an end at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, surrounded by family and friends. Betty leaves behind her loving husband and best friend Harley (Bill) Pennington. Also succeeding her in death are three daughters, Lynda Harper, Karen Harper and Lori Craft (Darren); two stepdaughters, Cathy Driver, Lisa McClure (Wayne); seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Betty the third of six children leaves behind two brothers, Lonnie Dalton (Carol), Roy Dalton (Frankie), Ruth Ketner (Bobby) and Catherine Wall (Weldon). Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and Carl Dalton and one sister, Ethelen Dalton. Prior to her battle, Betty ""BT"" retired from R.J. Reynolds after many dedicated years in the Sports Marketing Department. She is a member of Grace Baptist Church, where she loved to make a ""joyful noise"" in the choir. In her spare time she helped tend the farm and grandbabies. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m Friday, December 12, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Al Helms and Dr. R.D. Hamann officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 and/or Grace Baptist Church in Lewisville in Betty's honor. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their love and support.
