Betty Disher Nifong

Betty Disher Nifong, 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem.

Betty was born on August 9, 1930 in Davidson County to the late Sidney Taylor Disher and Mary Isabel Wood Disher. She retired after many years of service at Piedmont Concrete Co. where she was employed as a Credit Manager. Betty was a member of Cottage Street Church of Christ in Winston-Salem.

In her later years, Betty enjoyed Ballroom, Square and Line dancing. She was a member of the Georgia Taylor Ballroom Dance Club in Winston-Salem and the Squar-N-Aders Square Dance Club in Lexington.

Betty was also an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was a very compassionate person, visiting the sick and elderly during her volunteer time at Forsyth Medical Center and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She continued her volunteer work until her health no longer permitted her to do so.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, J. Frank Nifong who passed away on May 17, 1998; son, Jeffrey Nifong; and her sister, Nellie Mae Briles.

Surviving family includes her son, Jerry (Sheila) Nifong; three grandsons, Jesse (Linnaea) Nifong, Jake (Lindsey) Nifong and Wil (Hannah) Nifong; great-grandchildren, Noah, Jack, Audrey, Halie, Evelyn and Eva Nifong; one sister, Lucy Jones; and dear friend of 25 years, Carl Caviness.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Reedy Creek Church of Christ in Lexington, with Mr. James Percival officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookridge Retirement Community for the loving care and compassion they showed to Betty over the last six years.
