Betty Lou Hilton Childress

Betty Hilton Childress, 86, of Winston Salem, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Betty was born November 19, 1937 to Roy Emmett Hilton and Margie Guy Hilton in Forsyth County. She was a woman of strong faith in Jesus Christ and loved reading the bible and singing hymns. She was mother to 3 daughters and cared for many patients as an LPN in the hospital and private duty. Her passion was gardening and enjoying the bounty of good food with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook with an ability to recite recipes off the cuff. She enjoyed singing and the sound of acapella voices in unison singing hymns. Betty was a true picture of independence and determination and enjoyed reading and learning new things.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her brother Joseph Doyle Hilton.

Betty is survived by her beloved family: sister, Wanda Norman, daughters Terry Linderer (Doug), Alice Hayes (Kevin), and Marjorie Childress (Tom Walter), grandchildren Matthew Sholar (Bronwen), Kurt Linderer, Ira Sholar and Sam Clodfelter, nieces and nephews Angela Hilton McClung (Brian), Danny Norman (Lisa).

The funeral service which will be held at 1pm on Friday, Januray 5, 2024 at Hayworth Miller Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, NC. The family will be receiving friends from 12pm -1pm before the service. The Entombment will be at 2pm at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, 2730 Peters Creek Parkway.
