Betty Ruth Lawson, a retired administrative assistant, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on December 19, 2022, at the age of 76. Betty is survived by her son Andrew Thomas, granddaughter Rachel Thomas, daughter-in-law Sharon Thomas, and her sister Jackie Thompson. She is predeceased by her mother Bernice Pearl Voss, her father Ernest Pinto Barnes, and her brother Ernie Barnes. Betty was born on August 10, 1946, to Bernice and Ernest Barnes. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1964. On February 3, 1967, she welcomed her only biological son Andrew Thomas into the world. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a devoted lover of Jesus and a servant to the church. She taught Sunday school at United Baptist Church and spent a year in El Salvador as a missionary in her 50s. She enjoyed spending time with her family, antiquing with her granddaughter, going to family reunions in Arkansas, visiting the North Carolina mountains where her son lives, playing bingo with her neighbors, and watching old tv shows with her cat Barney. Betty’s life was marked by her unfailing and great love for her God and for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at United Baptist Church with Pastor Will Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
