KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Betty James Hooker, 64, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Kernersville Medical Center. Betty was born on July 9, 1948 in Forsyth County to George Hester and Dorothy Yates James. She was a active member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. Betty loved her church family and enjoyed antiques. Always sharing her love with her family, she most recently had the privilege of celebrating her mother's, Dorothy, 100th birthday on November 10th. Betty was preceded in death by her father, George Hester James. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Michael Hooker; her mother; one son, Tim J. Hooker (wife, Lisa); two grandaughters, Molly Kathleen and Eryn Delaney Hooker; one sister, Sue White (husband, Larry); a nephew, Blake White (Angie); two nieces, Lori Comer (Allan) and Jill Nelson (Shannon); and six great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson, Rev. Frank Shumate and Rev. Wayne Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, December 7, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Slatkoff and Dr. Hopkins and their staff for their care and kindness during Betty's illness.
