Mrs. Betty Rose Ratledge Hege of Advance died July 5, 2010 following a two month decline from a rare neurological disease. She was born July 1, 1929, the second of four daughters, to Walter Glenn and Mozelle McCulloh Ratledge. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob who died in 2006. Surviving is her son, Stephen Clay Hege and his wife, Debbie Potts Hege of Advance; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gwen and George Frye of Mocksville, Frances and Dave Ward of Advance and (Kermit) Ann and Harvey Hamrick of Chapel Hill; several nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews and two granddogs, Wiley and Bo. She had a very large extended family of first cousins and two aunts, Hattie Mae McCulloh and Bonnie Helsabeck from the Redland Community. Betty worked 43 years at Western Electric where she made many friends and continued to visit, bowl and travel with them through the years since her retirement in 1990. She was much loved by members of her Elbaville community and Elbaville United Methodist Church in which she remained a very present and responsible member until her recent decline in health. She always embraced every pastor she had including and especially her current one, Rev. Kirk Tutterow who has been so kind and generous with his time throughout her illness. She will be remembered by family and friends for her loving and attentive care of her husband during his frail last few years. Her cheerful and witty disposition made her easy to be with and her sharp intellect, love of reading, crossword puzzles and scrabble will continue to bring a smile to our faces for years to come. She will be very much missed by the many who loved her but we are all comforted and inspired by the rich life she had and her love of her Lord, her community, her friends and her family. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Elbaville United Methodist Church with Rev. Kirk Tutterow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or a memorial contribution may be made to Deborah Burgess Cancer Survivors Fund, Forsyth Medical Center Foundation, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; Elbaville United Methodist Church, 2595 Hwy 801 S., Advance, NC 27006; Kate B.
