Betty Reid Myers Hedgecock

Mrs. Betty Reid Myers Hedgecock, 83 of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at her home. She was born May 17, 1926 in Forsyth County to Grady Bennett Myers, Sr. and Lena Bailey Myers. Betty Reid graduated from Griffith High School in 1943 and attended High Point College until her high school sweetheart, James Franklin Hedgecock, Jr. returned from the war. They were married July 2, 1945. Mrs. Hedgecock was a very active member of Friedberg Moravian Church for many years where she served her Lord as a Sunday school teacher and in the Women's Fellowship, the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and Senior Friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Franklin Hedgecock, Jr. Surviving are two sons, Ronald Brian Hedgecock and wife Sharon of Lexington, Phillip David Hedgecock of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Marcia Hedgecock Reich and husband Richard of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, April Hedgecock Meredith (Greg) of Fancy Gap, VA; Matthew Reich (Kristi) of Apex and Katie Reich (fiance Ryan Martiniuk) of Durham; and Amanda Cottrell of High Point; two great-grandchildren, Cora and Colton Meredith; one sister, Mary Frances Roberson of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Grady Bennett Myers, Jr. (Alice) of Durham and David W. Myers of Austin, TX and eleven nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Friedberg Moravian Church by Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. in the church parlor prior to the funeral.
