Betty Dillard Culbreth

Mrs. Betty Dillard Culbreth passed away peacefully at home Sunday, February 28, 2016 after a long term illness. She tackled her illness with dignity and courage to the very end. Culbreth was born in Wilkes County, NC to V. C. Dillard and Lina Stines Dillard. She enjoyed drawing, painting and creating wonderful works of art enjoyed by her family. She was also a master at solving puzzles. Culbreth loved to collect seashells at the beach and enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. Culbreth is survived by her husband of 50 years, Michael Lee Culbreth; two daughters, Elizabeth Culbreth Pritchard (Travis) and children Lauren and Jacob; Christine Grey Culbreth; and two step-daughters Jamie Utt Trotter (Alan) and children Riley and Carson; Amanda Lee Utt and son Luke. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers John C. Dillard (Darlene), Ted R. Dillard (Becky), Jimmy R. Dillard and her sisters Frances Dillard Kiger (Bud), Gayle Dillard Pearson, Ruby Dillard Gordon (Kenneth); sister-in-law, Susan Blackburn and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernie and Lina Dillard; sister Peggy Dillard Payne; sister-in-law Patricia Culbreth Deane; father and mother-in-law Grey and Chrystine Culbreth; grandparents John Dillard and Lillie Muncy Dillard and Robie Stines and Rebecca Hicks Stines; and step-grandson Dawson Utt Joyce. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either the Arthritis Foundation at www.donate.arthritis.org or to the charity of one's choice. The family also requests assistance in rehoming Roxie and Little Bit, Betty's two cats that the family can no longer care for.
