Mrs. Betty Coleen Culler Sanders, 91, of Winston-Salem transitioned to her heavenly home Saturday, October 21, 2023, at her home with her family. Known to her family and friends as “Coleen,” she was born in Forsyth County to the late Joseph Culler and Sallie Butner Culler on January 18, 1932.
Coleen graduated in 1950 from Mineral Springs High School where she was the pianist for the Glee Club. She loved singing and playing hymns and was the organist at Konnoak Baptist Church for over thirty years. She later joined Old Town Baptist Church where she was a faithful member as long as her health allowed. Coleen came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a child and her church family meant so much to her. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing and reading Grace Livingston Hill novels. Coleen and her husband, Jimmy, owned and operated Old Town Camper Sales on Reynolda Road for forty years.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Sanders; brothers, Jimmy Culler, Joseph Culler, and Edward Culler; sisters Larue Merritt and Dorothy Knight. Coleen is survived by her daughters, Melinda Lawson (Jerry) and Regina Hogan (Mark Daniel); grandchildren, Luke Lawson (Marla) and Cory Hogan; great grandchildren, Brody and Jaxton Lawson; sister, Theresa Ramsey; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Old Town Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. Family will receive friends 10am-10:45am prior at the church. Committal will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Missions offering at Old Town Baptist Church, 4386 Shattalon Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Cindy, mom’s nurse, and Trellis Supportive Care who assisted for the last 8 months. We would also like to thank Wendy Bayne for her assistance and love she showed to mom. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
