Betty Jeanette Reed Clancy, 79, of Winston Salem peacefully passed away Tuesday, 21 January 2014 at Walnut Cove Health Center after a lengthy battle with Parkinsonism. She was born 4 June 1934 in Gilliam, McDowell County, WV to the late Raymond Edward Reed and Mabel Elledge Reed. Mrs. Clancy graduated from North Fork HS. She served her country in the US Navy during the Korean War and retired from Eastern Air Lines and SATO travel. She was a devout Catholic volunteering in many capacities with her local parishes and earned her Master Gardener certification while living in Huntsville, AL. Her talent was reflected in the landscapes of her homes. She enjoyed traveling the world and was an avid reader. Betty is preceded in death by: Clarence Raymond Reed (brother); Francis John Clancy, Jr. (father of her children); Nicholas Grimanis (son-in-law). Betty is survived by four daughters: Anne Clancy Thomas (R. Tracy) Siloam, NC; Cindy Clancy Nelson (Jim) Huntsville, AL; Corinne Doster (Dr. Freeman), Lookout Mountain, GA; Carolyn Grimanis. Seven grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Gaga: Christin, Courtney, Catherine Thomas; Dr. Cross, Reed, Stuart Doster; Alexandra Grimanis; and four great-grandchildren: Edgar, Aidan, Alex and Max; sisters Sue Carolyn Williams (Bob), St. Cloud, FL; Harriett Sedke (Chet), Tavares, FL. A funeral mass with military honors will be held at St. Leo's Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Ave, Winston Salem, NC on Saturday, 22 February 2014 at 1:00. Followed by a reception at the home of Christin Thomas, ., Winston Salem, NC.
