Betty Calloway

Mrs. Betty Howard Calloway, 88, of Walkertown, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Calloway (Mamaw to almost everyone) was born in Yadkin County to the late Clarence McKinley and Ruth Hester Howard on January 2, 1934, one of seven children. Betty was always amused to say that her birthday was “1234”. She loved being outdoors, always saying Winter was her favorite season as she loved the cold and especially the snow. She enjoyed her bird feeders, planting tomatoes and cucumbers, potting plants and gathering with friends and family on a swing in the shade. In her younger years, she would spend time bowling with her family. Many bowling teams consisted of her husband, sons, and daughters-in-law. On Sundays, a good southern meal was there for whoever came. Her famous green beans and corn and cherry yum yum will be a cherished memory. Her singing and love for gospel music was often heard in her home. In her later years, she was spunky and mischievous, two qualities the staff at Oak Forest mentioned daily.  In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmy Roger Calloway and her siblings. She is survived by her two sons, Jack Calloway (Terri) and Chris Calloway (Kathryn) all of Walkertown; six grandchildren, Justin Calloway, Jody Calloway (Anna), Codie Brown (Ryan), CJ Calloway, Niki Calloway, and Cory Calloway; and five great-grandchildren, Joseph Calloway, Jaxon Calloway, Zoey Brown, Silas Fulk, and Milo Brown. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorials be made to Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation Center, 5680 Windy Hill Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Calloway.
