Betty Burton Smith, age 88 of Winston Salem, NC, entered into the immediate presence of her Lord on June 23rd, 2022. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Lee Smith; her parents, Clarence Winfield Burton and Lois Stroud Burton; two brothers, Charles Winfield Burton and Carl Ray Burton. Betty is survived by her sister, Wilma “Tootsie” Hanes (Jerry); brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Cloud Burton (Debbie); brother-in law, Doug McArthur Smith (Linda); two sisters-in law, Libby Smith Johnson (Eugene) and Rose Smith (Odell). Betty cherished her surviving children, Deborah “Debbie” Haro and Timothy Lee Smith (Kelly) and her surviving grandchildren, Jacob “Jake” Daniel Smith and Hannah Smith Sarver (Jesse).
Betty was a phenomenal mother and wife. She was an outstanding cook, avid crafter and had a servant heart. Her pound cake may be served now in heaven. Betty worked and also volunteered at Baptist Hospital and was a member of the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary and Mount Tabor Civic Club. She leaves behind the powerful lessons of love, service, and faith.
A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 28th at Forsyth Memorial Park, 3771 Yadkinville Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27106 at 2:00 pm, with Chaplain Patricia Green officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service at Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston Salem, NC 27107.
