Betty Sue Beck

Betty Sue Davis Beck, 93, a resident of Winston-Salem, peacefully entered the presence of her Savior on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home. Betty was born in Forsyth County on July 24, 1931 to the late Clara Hester and Melvin Osborne Davis. Betty retired from Lucent Technologies after many years of service. When the Western Electric Lexington Road Plant announced its closing in 1987, Betty and her husband, John excitedly relocated to Orlando, Florida. As a cold natured person, Betty loved living in Florida. She enjoyed her days in the sun playing golf, bowling, and even earned her nickname “Bingo Betty” while playing Bingo. Betty had a knack for winning things. After retiring and moving back to Winston-Salem in 1998, she kept the moniker and enjoyed many other games of Bingo and Rook at the Winston-Salem Moose Lodge. Betty was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church and loved attending and serving with her church family.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Beck, and one sister, Melva Dean Adams.

Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her children, Steve Spear (Cindy) of Reedy Creek, Randy Spear of Winston-Salem, Bruce Spear (Tammie) of Kernersville, Sharon Carter (Daryl) of Winston-Salem, and Brian Spear of Winston-Salem; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jane Davis of Winston-Salem.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the New Friendship Baptist Church restoration fund, 4258 Old Lexington Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
