Mrs. Betty Nodine Avant, 76, was serenaded by angels as she entered her heavenly home on June 15th, 2016. She was born in Spindale, NC, to James and Mary Ellen Nodine on April 1, 1940, and graduated from Central High School in 1958. Betty and Bill moved to Winston-Salem, NC, in 1966 to raise their family. Betty was a dedicated employee of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School Transportation Department for 28 years and a longtime member of Freeman Street Baptist Church. Helping family and friends was Betty's love and joy. She was a wonderful decorator and the handiest of a handy woman; there was nothing that she couldn't do. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, William Avant Jr.; beloved daughter, Constance Lynne Avant; and grandson, Eric Eugene Ellis. Surviving are one son William Avant (wife Mary) of Kernersville, NC; two granddaughters, Ashley Avant, and Crystal Barber of Kernersville, NC; and four great grandchildren, Devyn Tyner, Morgan Tyner, and Madison Tyner of Kernersville, NC, and Kennedy Ellis of Port Charlotte, FL, whom she loved helping and spending time with every chance she got. Also surviving are one sister, Joan Guffy of Charlotte, NC; and one brother, James Nodine (wife Brenda) of Waynesboro, VA; and very special lifelong friends whom she was blessed to have shared her journey with. A graveside service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bob Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends following the service for fellowship at Freeman Street Baptist Church, 2311 Freeman Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
