JAMESTOWN - Bessie Lenora Raper Young, 100, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation Center . Bessie was born on February 25, 1914 in Forsyth County to Charles Milton and Hattie Idol Raper. She lived in the Abbotts Creek Community and was a member of Union Cross Baptist Church where she served as the church pianist for many years. She shared a love for music with her husband and could play a variety of instruments. She enjoyed painting, arts and crafts and especially loved bowling.

In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Young; three brothers, Davis, Holland, and Paul Raper; and two sisters, Etta Mae Skeen and Ina Smith.

Surviving are her daughter, Charline Cornelison (husband, Hoyle); and several loving nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem with Dr. Steven Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
