Bertie Johnson Bowman

BOWMAN DENTON - Mrs. Bertie Johnson Bowman, 94, died September 2nd, 2009 after a full and active life, which became more challenging during her last years because of an extended period of living with Alzheimer's disease. Formerly of Sauratown Road, Germanton, she had been a resident of Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton since 2006. Mrs. Bowman was the wife for 68 years of the late William Ralph Bowman. She was born in High Point on July 31, 1915, the daughter of the late Silas Marion and Emma Anderson Johnson. The Fulp community was the family home during her formative years. Mrs. Bowman has been a member of Oak Grove Moravian Church in Winston-Salem for 62 years and is a member of the Christian Women's Club. She retired as the secretary and co-owner from Paragon Food Center in Ogburn Station in 1975. Surviving are three sons: William Leslie Bowman of High Rock Lake; Ted Wayne Bowman and wife, Marge, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Thomas Madison Bowman and wife, Bonnie, of Advance; six grandchildren, DawnParascandolo of Rural Hall, David Bowman and Michael Bowman of Charlotte, Keely Bridges of Advance, Rhett Bowman of Winston-Salem, Luke Bowman of High Rock Lake, Beth Magistad of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Brian Maddock of Victor, Idaho and six great grandchildren, Karley Marie Bowman and Christopher David Bowman, both of Charlotte, Francesca Eve Parascandolo of Rural Hall, and Grace Isabel Bridges, Kate Frances Bridges and Caroline Anne Bridges, all of Advance; and beloved sister Frances J. Binkley of Clemmons. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar Johnson and Emmit Johnson, formerly of High Point and Arthur Johnson, formerly of Walnut Cove. Intertwined with these dear family ties, Mrs. Bowman's life included a love of gardening, especially lovely flowers, ceramic making and painting in her mid-years, gatherings with family and friends, and smiling. She always wanted things to go well. Funeral services will be conducted at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall at 2:00 Friday, September 4. Entombment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum in Rural Hall. The Bowman family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 3. Because of her love of gardening, designated donations received will be used to purchase memorial trees to be planted in Germanton, North Carolina - checks made to Tom Bowman, P.O. Box 767, Clemmons, NC 27012, or donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
