Bertha Marie Reich, 68, of Winston Salem NC, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism. She was born on September 17, 1947 in Winston Salem NC, where she lived her entire life. She is survived by her sister, Martha Neal of Winston Salem, NC, ex brother-in-law, Donald Neal Sr. of King, NC, niece, Kimberly Neal Key (Randy) of Winston Salem, NC, nephew, Donald Neal Jr. (Lauren), great niece, Natalie Neal, great nephew, Benjamin Neal of King, NC and numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Horace (Shorty) Reich and mother Mae Reich, of Winston Salem, NC. Bertha was a sweet and special woman. She was loved by all who knew her, even if it was only fleetingly. Her loves were simple, but to her they made a life full of happiness. Her two favorite activities were washing dishes and watching Neil Patrick Harris in How I Met Your Mother on TV. Getting dish washing liquid for every birthday, holiday, special treat or any reason at all, was the equivalent to Gold. She fell in love with Neil Patrick Harris on Doogie Howser MD and he continued to be her ""boyfriend"" until the very end. On every holiday and birthday, she received a card signed ""Love, Neil Patrick Harris"", which she looked forward to more than any gift. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor and was her sister Martha's ""good helper"" and ""shadow"" since the passing of her mother in 1985. She had a phenomenal memory for birthdays. No matter how long ago it was, if she knew your birthday, she would never forget it. She enjoyed going to the movies, going out to eat, watching Sunday morning preaching, the weather forecast every day at 5 and wearing lipstick and nail polish, especially red. On outings, she always wanted to go by the airport in Winston Salem ""where Uncle Buddy worked on planes"". She was not a fan of the dark and asked daily, to any and every one ""do you pay your power bill?"" ""It's important, aint it?"" She was a special angel on earth and is now a special angel in Heaven, where there is always Eternal Light. Our hearts are heavy with her passing and the void that she has left behind is only bearable with the knowledge that she is with her parents, family members and friends in Heaven. She will be sorely missed by us all. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 7:00 pm, officiated by Dr. Cecil Cave at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends and family between 5:00pm - 6:45pm prior to the service.
