Treasured and lovely lady, Mrs. Bernice “Tommye” Gengo, 89, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 13, 2022. She was born in Forsyth County to the late Albert and Louise Wall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Rock Gengo in 2011; her brother, Fred Wade Wall in 2016; and sister-in-law, Shigeko Kay Wall in 2015. Family left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael (Deb) Gengo; daughter, Elisa (Bill) Burton; grandchildren, Rieti Gengo and Ashley (Delvin) Williams; and great-grandchildren, Bryson, Savanna, and Laylah. She also leaves a host of extended family including step grandchildren, Angie and Brady, and many close friends who will miss her terribly, especially her Ya-Ya sisters, and neighbor, Jack Hester. Tommye first retired from RJR and then from LA Reynolds Garden Center having made many friends along the way. She and Rock were the original house flippers; many times buying a house in the morning before work, then after working day jobs, they labored side by side until late nights - remodeling, then selling or renting the homes. In the last 10 years, when she wasn’t working in her yard or enjoying days spent shopping and eating with her friends, she was a talented painter, cross stitch artist, collector of clocks, and the most gracious entertainer; hosting friends and family for game nights and spaghetti dinners. We will always remember her favorite mottos… LIVE WELL, LOVE MUCH, LAUGH OFTEN and WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, EAT! She did all with gusto! A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Sandra Bovender officiating. Immediately following the memorial service, a brief committal ceremony will be held at the Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 11:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Masks are required. Memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
